Clintondale is one of five official hamlets in the Town of Plattekill, a community whose founding dates to 1750. Much of the early economy of the hamlet, small businesses and farming, continues, although farming has become concentrated mostly in apple orchards, many of which also serve as tourist destinations with pick-your-own apples and other holiday event programs. Clintondale is a popular community for home buyers looking for country living and convenience. Properties can be purchased with views of the Catskill Mountains on one side and the Shawangunk Ridge on the other. Residents can also commute to other areas for work; easy access to U.S. Route 44 and NY 55 places residents about 15 minutes from the Mid-Hudson Bridge-- the entrance to Poughkeepsie, New York, in Dutchess County, and about 1.5 hours from New York City. Of course, this location places Clintondale residents even closer to mountain climbing, hiking, and sailing the Hudson!
