Rifton is an attractive upstate village that sits on the banks of the Wallkill River. There is a distinctive wood-covered bridge that crosses the river. The village had its beginnings as a smattering of several hamlets and communities, it was incorporated as a village on May 20, 1901, (Eliza Doolittle Day for those who fancy musicals) encompassing what had been the hamlets of Rifton Glen, Swartekill, and Dashville along with the communities of Saltpeterville, and Perrine's Bridge.
